our history

Many times I’ve been asked “why are you involved with a beauty pageant” and my answer is always the same….This is NOT just a beauty pageant!

The San Diego Northeastern Communities (SDNEC) Pageant is the first step in the Miss USA pageant circuit, yes “pageant” but, it is based in so much more than “beauty”.  The SDNEC is based in two factors, education and community service. The young ladies elected as their communities’ representatives must have and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA throughout their reign, they must make a commitment to attend their community’s monthly general meetings, be up to date on the issues and events with which their area is faced and be able to knowledgeably respond to questions that may arise. They will also attend many events throughout San Diego as representatives of each community.

Each titleholder will earn a small scholarship, sponsored by their community, as a thank you for a job well done. The SDNEC will also sponsor each into the next step in the circuit where the winners will earn a slightly larger scholarship and the entry into the next step. Third is Miss California USA where the winners earn a full ride scholarship on their way to the USA pageant. This takes more than beauty to accomplish!

So, why a beauty pageant? Because I am amazed at the strength and resiliency of the young women I encounter, their want to accomplish great things makes me want to help them succeed and I see this as a great venue in which to do so.

"I believe that, with a bit of help and encouragement, any young woman can achieve her heart's desire"

The current title holders and, at times, the past title holders are always ready to lend a helping hand to their communities in any event deemed proper for their appearance.

At times, they will also attend greater San Diego and other community's events to which they are invited.

Our mission is to provide a safe, community based environment in which young women can grow, prosper and become responsible members of society, while representing their communities.

As the first step in the Miss USA circuit, our aim is to prepare our title holders for the next step in the pageant circuit.
